Why not have something a bit different at your wedding. This lovely custom comes from Egypt and began as a way of informing everybody that the couple were married and was the procession to take the bride to her new home. Now it takes the bride and groom into the reception. Having a dancer at your wedding is supposed to bring luck to the wedding couple.
What happens? Using lively Egyptian music the dancer (me) wearing a shamadan and playing finger cymbals leads the procession into the room. The other guests are encouraged to clap along. The procession goes round the room so everybody gets to see it and finishes at the top table for photographs.
What do we have to do, do we have to dance? No don't worry nobody has to dance but the dancer. All you do is follow me and look happy and smile at everybody-not difficult on your wedding day!!
Who is in the procession ? The dancer leads it followed by the bride and groom, the bridesmaids and then the rest of the top table wedding party. Or it can be just the bride and groom if you prefer.
Can I have some say in picking the music ? Yes. I can give you a choice of music for you to pick one that you feel is best for you and your venue.
How long does it take ? This depends on the number of guests and the size of the hall but usually around 4 or 5 minutes
I will decorate my shamadan to match your colour scheme and wear a costume to match. I can use real lit candles or battery candles depending on your venues ceiling height or fire regulations. I have shamadan of different sizes.
